First held in 1956 with 33 boats, the annual Miami to Key Largo Race represents the "rite
of spring" to South Florida sailors. This race now has as many as 200 boats participating. Boats start just south of the Rickenbacker Causeway and proceed directly to Jewfish Creek
area of Key Largo. Everyone starts at once! All boats must be greater than a 14' minimum
and include both monohulls and multihulls in various classes.
Proceeds go to the MYC Youth Sailing Foundation. The upcoming race will be
on Saturday, April 18th.
In 1956, the 33 original sailboats finished
the 60 km race at Plantation Yacht Harbor, and the competitors sailed one design
boats, Ravens, Suicides, etc., a different course and different boats than what
are used today.
