First held in 1956, the annual Miami to Key Largo Race
has grown from 33 entrants to as many as over 300 participants. The last
few years have seen a decline in the number of boats that have been entered to
approximately 120, perhaps, a sign of the changing times or due to hurricane
damage and losses in the general area.
The race starts just south of the Rickenbacker Causeway and proceeds directly to
the Jewfish Creek area of Key Largo. Everyone starts at once! All boats must be greater than a 14' minimum and include both monohulls and multihulls in various classes. Proceeds go to the Miami Yacht Club Youth Sailing Foundation.
