The Olympic Sailing Committee of
US SAILING established the Rolex Miami OCR (Olympic Classes
Regatta) in 1990. The last race held in Biscayne Bay occurred on 21
January 2007. The Rolex Miami OCR is the only International Sailing
Federation (ISAF) grade-one
racing event conducted in the United States and is vital to sailors
striving to make the US Sailing Team. Known as a very competitive
venue, the race attracts sailors from across the world. 610 sailors
from 40 countries competed in the 2006 edition of the OCR. The prime
sponsor of the event is
Rolex who sponsors many yacht racing events throughout the year.
The many single design race classes are supported in the Rolex Miami
OCR by an extraordinary number of area yacht clubs. The MYC
sponsors the Tornado class. Our first race under an Olympic
PRO was in 2004 for the Olympic Trials. The 2008 races for the
first time were not held here on Biscayne Bay.
USA 151 was the Tornado raced by Sarah Newberry and her
uncle Jamie Livingston in 2007. Leandro Spina stepped in for Sarah when
she had to return to school.
