Miami Yacht Club

SAILING PROGRAMS
Throughout it's history, the Miami Yacht Club has supported
many different facets of sailing.
YOUTH SAILING PROGRAM
We have a very active youth sailing program, which began in the
early 1950's and continues to teach sailing to children from ages 7 to 14.
We have top notch sail classes for basic, intermediate and race sailing
instruction, featuring guest clinics with alumni sailors from the highest national and
international levels. We host two to three regattas a year just for youngsters.
SAILING INSTRUCTORS
Our
instructors are highly skilled and trained. All our instructors are certified by
the United States Sailing Association (US SAILING) for sail instruction and
motorboat safety. For safety, instructors also have CPR and First Aid training.
COMPETITION
For more experienced sailors, Miami Yacht Club is known as
the Home of Champions. MYC sailors
have attended Local, National, Regional and International Championships. While
we applaud all the trophies that our team has taken home, we are most proud of
the way our sailors have represented our club locally and nationally with good
sportsmanship, character and etiquette. We also host several regattas a year, including the famous
Miami to Key Largo Race.

GOALS
It is the
mission of the Miami Yacht Club Youth Sailing Foundation to encourage all children
and all adults to experience the joy of recreational and/or competitive
sailing and to teach the essential elements of performance boat handling,
seamanship and racing.
The MYC YSF
promotes
and encourages in its sailors the following values, life-long lessons, understandings,
and self-realizations: ethical behavior, teamwork, respect for self and
others, respect for the marine environment, cooperative learning, and good
sportsmanship.
Through it's programs
and policies, the MYC YSF seeks to support both serious competitors
and recreational sailors at all skill levels, in local waters and beyond.
Most importantly,
the program is designed to: Create sailors who will enjoy and contribute
to the sport of sailing for their entire lives; and who develop competence, confidence and character in our sailors in a fun and safe
environment.
The success of the
program is not measured in races won, but in the legacy of the love of the sport.
